Oscar 2026 nominations have been announced, with Sinners leading the field with 16 nominations (an all-time record), followed by One Battle After Another with 13. Next came a tight cluster: Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value each scored 9, while Hamnet landed 8. Other noteworthy Best Picture contenders rounding out the lineup were Bugonia, F1, The Secret Agent and Train Dreams — with The Secret Agent standing out as the “international crossover” pick that showed up in both Best Picture and International Feature.

Oscar 2025 nominations have been announced, with EMILIA PEREZ leading with 13 nominations, followed by THE BRUTALIST and WICKED with 10 nominations each, rounded up by CONCLAVE and A COMPLETE UNKNOWN with 8 each. Other noteworthy contenders were ANORA, THE SUBSTANCE, and the surprise entry I’M STILL HERE from Brazil. Unexpected announcements include Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong for THE APPRENTICE as well as Felicity Jones for THE BRUTALIST and Monica Barbaro for A COMPLETE UNKNOWN. Notable snubs were director Edward Berger for CONCLAVE, Angelina Jolie for MARIA, Daniel Craig for QUEER, Nicole Kidman for BABYGIRL and Denzel Washington for GLADIATOR II.

MY FEARLESS FORECAST OF GOLDEN GLOBE WINNERS AND OSCAR NOMINATIONS 2025

As of this writing, the Golden Globe 2025 nominations have been announced, with EMILIA PEREZ leading with ten nominations. This was followed by THE BRUTALIST with seven nominations, CONCLAVE with six, ANORA and THE SUBSTANCE with five each. It has been surprisingly delightful for the Cannes Best Screenplay winner, THE SUBSTANCE, a body horror genre film that got classified in the Musical or Comedy category.

TCHAIKOVSKY’S WIFE – A Cinematic Study on Self-Destructive Obsession

Not much is known about famed Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s wife, Antonina Miliukova. Wikipedia summarises her in Tchaikovsky’s biography with just a few statements, stating that their marriage in 1877 was “a disaster” and they were “mismatched psychologically and sexually” and only lived together for six weeks before Tchaikovsky left her, as he was emotionally agitated and suffered “from acute writer’s block.” Their separation forced Tchaikovsky to confront the truth about his sexuality with the support of his family. Ultimately, he “never blamed Antonina for the failure of their marriage.”

KATIPS : ANG MGA BAGONG KATIPUNERO – A Low-Fi Film Musical of the Marcos Martial Law Years

The film adaptation of the 2016 stage musical KATIPS, written and directed by filmmaker and lawyer Vincent Tañada, is both earnest and eye-opening. The film already has many achievements. It has earned 17 nominations at the 70th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards and won seven categories for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Tañada, Best Supporting Actor for Johnrey Rivas, Best Cinematography, Best Original Song for Sa Gitna Ng Gulo, and Pipo Cifra for Best Musical Score.
